Reuse and recycling index for used wood materials for value-preserving subsequent use
BMEL - Cooperation Project WIn-Altholz
Reuse and recycling index for used wood materials for value-preserving subsequent use
Aim of the project is to enable recycling companies to reuse the biggest possible proportion of used solid wood with the highest possible quality. In order to achieve this, a portable scanner for the examination of used wood has to be designed specifically for on-site application at the recycling yards. The device will have an internal database in which both the comparative spectra of the most diverse types of wood and the spectra of the most common wood preservatives are stored. This will enable a better classification of the wood into the waste wood categories I or II - IV. Furthermore, an index will be established, which enables an evaluation of solid waste wood in terms of size and shape, in order to achieve the best possible subsequent use for it. In addition, a composite material (RPC, e.g. Reclaimed -Wood Plastic Composite) will be developed for wood for which there is currently no possibility of subsequent use (category IV waste wood), which should also enable safe subsequent use of this wood. The HNEE is working on sub-project 1, which includes the overall project coordination as well as the development of the utilisation and recycling index, the test of the scanner and the RPC development.
